New Island reports successful drilling at Glover Island Gold Property
New Island Resources Inc. (NIS: TSX.V) of St. John’s Newfoundland is
pleased to announce early, positive drill results from its Glover Island Gold
Property in western Newfoundland. Four (4) holes completed of a planned 12-hole
program have all intersected significant sections of mineralized felsite rocks
which host gold mineralization at 16 advanced prospects along a 16 km structural
zone. Early sampling results are highlighted by gold assays up to 8.9 g/tonne
and include a 7.9 metre section grading 3.9 g/t.
To date 4 holes have been completed and sampled with a total of 135 samples
being forwarded for assaying at Eastern Analytical Laboratories, Springdale
NF. 46 of these samples are from the first hole SE-28A which intersected a
40.8 metre mineralized section from 188.35 to 229.15 metres. The first 17 samples
from this hole have been assayed and yielded economic values of greater than
1.1 g/t in 11 samples, which include the 7.9 metre section.
SE-28A represents the first deep hole drilled on the Lunch Pond South Extension
Zone where shallower drilling by the company in the early 1990’s indicated
a geological resource of approximately 3.6 million tonnes grading 2.0 g/t within
mineralized sections up to 40 metres thick. This hole drilled at a dip of –51º to
a final depth of 281 metres intersected the predicted down dip extension of
the zone 30 metres vertically below a 40 metre section grading 1.9 g/t and
intersected in the early 1990’s. The early results not only confirm the
down dip extension of the zone to a vertical depth of approx. 185 metres but
also show the zone is maintaining its thickness while recording a significant
improvement in grade. The 7.9 metre section grading 3.9 grams corresponds to
an 8.2 metre section grading 2.8 grams in the earlier hole (SE-6), which penetrated
the zone 30 metres above SE-28A.
The company is very encouraged with these results. The 2nd and 3rd holes drilled
at Lunch Pond South confirm the down dip and strike extension of the zone.
With assays pending, the drill was moved to test the Lucky Smoke Prospect located
6 km north. The first hole at Lucky Smoke (LS-7) was drilled to test the down
dip extension of an 8 metre zone grading 13.62 g/t. This hole cut approx. 14
metres of comparably mineralized felsite 30 metres vertically below the high-grade
zone. The impending assays include samples from this intersection.
The drilling program will continue throughout October with further testing
of the Lunch Pond South Extension, Lucky Smoke and Rusty Trickle Zones (a zinc
enriched, Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide Prospect 3 km south of Lunch Pond).
Assay results will be reported as and when received.
